Cake Decorating Class

Hello! One week to go!! :) Today I went back to the cooking school and learned how to decorate with fondant (the fancy looking stuff on big cakes/wedding cakes: looks cool--tastes like crap!)

I learned how to cover a cake, make bows, and streamers. I also worked with Gum Paste and made a rose and some daisies! Had a blast with it, and its actually easier than I expected! Here are a few pics of my little cake!

SF Giants Baseball

Today I went to AT & T park to see the SF giants baseball vs Milwalkee. Great game, great seats, the team- well, not so great. I assume they lost as it was the top of the 9th when we left and they were losing 5-2. I went with Maureen (From UCSF), her manchops Patrick, and her crazy brother Mike. Definitely an entertaining day! The seats were great!!! We were about 15-20 rows behind the vistors dugout. We were even in the special section that you can fill out a form and they bring the food to you. And this section has their own bathrooms.....no lines to wait in!!! Can you believe that???? Weather was good and the sun even made an appearance everyonce in a while! Another great SF experience!

Softball Challenge

Hello! A few weeks back the pedi echo lab was challenged by the adult echo lab to a game of softball. Considering that most of us had not played softball since say, middle school, we figured that we would be winning not with talent, but with team spirit and distraction. And our plan worked! Our team was called: Marilala and the woozy chickens! Marilala (or Marilou) was the team captain. And the woozy chicken: a mascot shall we say. Actually we made a great chant with the woozy chicken, and then I brought some feathers boas to help with it. The distraction: an air horn, and lots of whistles! And then of course, we had our hot pink matching wristbands! Hanoi sported the afro wig, which looked fantastic with the boa. And did you know, its very difficult to hit a ball with a boa in your face! For those of you who are thinking...Dawn doesn't play softball....you are correct! But with the magical boa, I actually hit the ball everytime I was up to bat, and scored 2 runs! Not too bad! Hope you enjoy the pictures! I had a great time, even got a little sun on the face! Yes, we won! 17 to 7!

San Francisco Pride Parade

Watch out girl scouts and marching bands....San Francisco knows how to have a great 3 hour parade! I went to experience the 2008 San Francisco Pride Parade in downtown sunday morning. I went with Rose, my roommate, and 2 of her friends. What an experience! The parade started with hundreds of chicks on bikes, or as some of them consider themselves, Dykes on Bikes. Then more fun to be seen! Yes, of course there were those that felt that clothing was optional, but I figure this site should be G rated! If you want to see some pics, let me know! There was some celebrity grand marshalls: Margaret Cho and Cyndi Lauper! The mayor was there and police chief. I just thought that it was really great to see so much support of the gay community. It was amazing! The united support of families and their kids was great to see! Plus all the marriages that have happened in the past few weeks due to the new law allowing same sex marriages was wonderful to see as well! The pictures are pretty much self-explanatory, the 2nd to last pic is of Rose and Margaret Cho. The picture with the guy and girl on the car with NEWSOME 2008 around him, is the mayor of San Francisco. Gavin Newsome was the key player in getting the same sex marriage ban lifted! I had a great time, memories for a lifetime!!!!!

More great bridge pictures

Hello Everyone!Last week was a hot one here in the city, which helped to create some great sunsets. Wednesday night brodie and I were at Fort Funston there was a great sunset and I took a few pictures, then off home for the night. As I was driving home in the rear view mirror I noticed the sky lighting up this great pink and orange color. Should have stayed a little longer. So thursday night I went to the Golden Gate Bridge, they sunset itself was not so great, but then, once again the sky lit up and this time I got some nice pictures. The sky started to light up the east bay, and the sky was amazing (1st picture). Then, obviously the 2nd & 3 rd picture is of the GG Bridge. Then Brodie at Fort Funston on the beach taking break. The last picture is of a sunset at Fort Funston! Enjoy!

Sunday Afternoon BBQ

On Sunday the techs went to one of the doctors house for an afternoon BBQ. She and her husband (also a pedi cardiologist) are moving to Canada in a few weeks and wanted to thank the techs for their work. So we headed up to Mill Valley which is just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. Very nice area, she even had a little bit of grass! Had some good food and wine, played a little volleyball, took a nice walk, picked some cherries from their trees (they also have lemon, orange, and apple trees). I added some pictures of the fun that we had! The pictures from the top are : Me trying out Jeremy's Hat : Hanoi and I playing on the double swing : Maureen and I with Marilou and Hanoi on the swings : Me, Marilou and Jeremy after eating : Dr. Lisa and her dog : Yev, his wife Jackie, and their twin boys : Patrick (maureen's manchops), me, Marilou, and Jeremy : Hanoi and I dancing (at Hanoi's request) : Me, Jeremy, and Bella (Dr. Lisa's daughter) hanging out in the kitchen!

Cooking Class

On Saturday I went to a cooking class out in Walnut Creek, with Hanoi, one of my co-workers. The class was part of their date night series, entitled A Night to Remember. We cooked Spinach Salad with prosciutto and Sour Cherry Vinaigrette, it was a warm salad, and tasted great. Then Jumbo Lump Crabcakes with Avocado Salsa--Yummy! Next was fantail shrimp, Beef Tenderloin, and we ended the night with Classic Creme Brulee! I had a great time with the torch! And they also had some smoked Salmon Canapes to eat as well. Thanks to Hanoi the instructors pulled out the wine at the beginning of the night.....you eat dinner with wine, but when cooking, we believed that you must drink the wine while cooking! We had a great time, the group was fun and so were the instructors!
